Oscillating Disc Rheometer (ODR)

Rheoline ODR – Oscillating Disc Rheometer by Prescott Instruments

Proven. Precise. Reliable.

The Rheoline Oscillating Disc Rheometer (ODR) by Prescott Instruments is a curemeter designed to measure the dynamic properties of rubber compounds throughout the vulcanization process. As a standalone benchtop instrument, the ODR is a classic rubber testing solution that has been widely used in the polymer industry for decades.

The rotor-based rheometer operates with a fixed oscillation angle and frequency, covering a temperature range from ambient to 250°C with temperature control accuracy of ±0.03°C. Combining high-quality electronics, precision engineering and the advanced Labline LIMS software, the Rheoline ODR meets the demanding requirements of modern quality control and research and development laboratories.

The Rheoline ODR combines the proven principles of oscillating disc rheometry with the precision and efficiency expected from modern testing equipment. It is supplied as a standalone benchtop system with Prescott Instruments' flagship Labline LIMS software. An optional programmable temperature zone module is available to extend its capabilities.

Mode of Operation

The Rheoline ODR determines the vulcanization characteristics of a rubber compound by measuring the torque required to oscillate a rotor embedded in the sample.

  1. Sample Preparation – A small rotor (disc) is embedded in the rubber sample.
  2. Sample Loading – The sample is positioned between upper and lower dies, which form a sealed test cavity.
  3. Heating and Pressurization – The sample is heated and held under pressure inside the sealed cavity.
  4. Rotor Oscillation – The rotor oscillates through a defined angle at a fixed frequency, applying shear deformation to the sample.
  5. Torque Measurement – A transducer measures and records the torque required to oscillate the rotor.
  6. Signal Analysis – The torque signal is separated into two components: the viscous (loss) component and the elastic (storage) component.
  7. Material Evaluation – The calculated parameters are used to assess curing behavior, compound characteristics and material processability.

Real-Time Display and Measurement Functions

During testing, the Rheoline ODR displays key measurement values and curves in real time, allowing users to monitor material behavior and evaluate test results efficiently.
